Bridgwater Arts Centres 80th Anniversary – Celebrate with us
About this event
Bridgwater Arts Centre is delighted to announce plans for a special programme of events and activities to mark its 80th anniversary, celebrating eight decades at the heart of the town’s cultural and community life.
Beginning in October 2026 and continuing throughout the anniversary year, the programme will bring together audiences, artists, volunteers, supporters, partners and residents to celebrate the Arts Centre’s remarkable history and look ahead to its future.
With dates and full details to be announced, the anniversary programme will include a diverse range of events inspired by the Arts Centre’s rich heritage, including:
- A 1946 Film Series, celebrating the year the Arts Centre first opened its doors
- Civic celebration recognising the Arts Centre’s contribution to the town’s cultural life
- A community street party, bringing people together to celebrate 80 years of creativity and connection
- Behind-the-scenes tours, offering visitors a rare opportunity to explore hidden spaces and discover stories from the building’s past
- A special scary tour, revealing some of the Arts Centre’s most intriguing tales and mysteries
- 80 Stories of the Arts Centre, a commemorative film capturing memories, experiences and reflections from the many people who have been part of the venue’s journey
- A major 80th anniversary exhibition, showcasing the people, performances, projects and milestones that have shaped the Arts Centre over the last eight decades
Throughout the anniversary year, there will also be numerous opportunities for the community to get involved. Residents, former staff, volunteers, performers, artists and audience members will be invited to share memories, photographs and stories, contribute to the exhibition and anniversary film, take part in events and help shape the celebrations. Whether someone has been involved with the Arts Centre for decades or has only recently discovered it, everyone will have the chance to be part of this landmark year.
The celebrations come at an exciting time for the organisation. Following Bridgwater Town Council’s acquisition of the building, ongoing investment and support are helping to secure the future of this much-loved cultural landmark while ensuring it continues to serve the community for generations to come.
