Steart: Connecting Coastal Communities
About
The Steart: Connecting Coastal Communities Project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, WWT Steart Marches are creating inspiring opportunities in the heart of the local community designed to deepen engagement with saltmarsh and wetlands.
The exhibition will showcase art created in workshops led by local artists. See intricate, close studies of plants; watercolours and sketching; broad observations of the land in impressive drawn-style monoprints. You’ll find willow sculptures of species; clay ‘bubbles’ capturing the essence of the marshes with imprints from resources collected on the site; delicate, seasonal, paper-cut artwork inspired by the plants, seed heads, grasses and textures of the season. Flower-based bunting, created using a traditional Japanese technique called Hapa Zome, which uses the colours in plants to dye material and imprint their shapes and patterns.
An audio-visual installation will honour the heritage and science of Steart as told through the history of the site and 3-Waters that interact here.
Overall, the exhibition will show a broad range of art forms, each capturing a part of Steart Marshes as a wetland nature reserve.
